Instead of a verbose review, I’m just going to list the PROs and CONs of the film…

* Cast – Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins and Elizabeth Olsen give everything they can to flesh out their characters.
* Plot* – It’s a well constructed tale and does the right thing by making Godzilla the hero.
* Audio – A superb film score by Alexandre Desplat with music that really enhances the visuals and fits perfectly. The overall sound design is equally wonderful, atmospheric and among the best I’ve heard in recent years.
* The vibe – The movie has a very 1970s feel about it … which is a good thing.

* Script – Hardly a memorable line of dialogue, and some of them straight up embarrassing.
* Running time – It seems all movies run too long nowadays, and Godzilla sometimes really suffers from the slow pace.
* Story* – Would have liked to see more of the title character and there was lack of real surprise in much of the major plot points.

Godzilla is a good movie. Go see it, if you think it’s your kind of thing.

score: 7.5 out of 10.

  1. Thanks. It’s been MANY years since I’ve seen the 1998 version, but my memory of it is that it actually looked nothing like Godzilla!
