Thor: The Dark World picks up a short time after the events of last year’s The Avengers (a film that itself could almost be considered Thor 1.5).
Chris Hemsworth is once again perfect in the title role, further embracing the role in appearance and approach that will surely become the definitive version of the character for this and the next generation. Just like the first film, Tom Hiddleston (as Loki) and Kat Dennings light up the screen whenever they appear.
Storywise, the world of Thor still manages to lean on the side of cosmic and sci-fi, and the action is delivered at a rather brisk pace. The movie is at its’ best when it does not take itself too seriously and when the humour of the characters and their situations are allowed to become lighter.
It’s a good, concise film, but I always felt a step ahead and couldn’t shake the feeling that much of the story was mostly a prologue to the next Avengers movie.
score: 7 out of 10.
