The Spider-Man / Red Sonja hardcover collects the five issue mini-series crossover between Marvel and Dynamite Entertainment, plus Marvel Team-Up #79, whereby these iconic characters first originally crossed paths.
Many people might be surprised to know that the original story and this mini-series is very much cannon material (and not a what if?), even though it might be difficult to understand its’ place in terms of continuity, if not so much for Spider-Man or Red Sonja, but certainly for the history of the evil Kulan Gath.
Kulan Gath enters modern day New York by way of a magical amulet, and soon after transforms the city and its’ people into the Hyborian Age. Venom make a surprise and important appearance, followed by a cavalcade of Spider-Man enemies also entering the fray.
It’s entertaining, not to be taken too seriously, the dialog is superb and I really enjoyed it. Red Sonja is one of my favorite comic book properties of all time, and Spider-Man my first super-hero love. So, I might be a bit biased.
