DOCTOR STRANGE “The Sorcerer Supreme”

Doctor Strange The Sorcerer Supreme is a 2007 animated movie from Marvel.

Doctor Strange has long been one of favorite Marvel Comic characters, as there doesn’t seem to be any limit to his powers and overall coolness!

This animated film presents a wonderful telling of Dr. Stephen Strange, clearly presenting his motivations and inspirations for his actions.

The training sequence in Tibet is brilliant, and the definite highlight of the movie.

A special mention of the incidental music score throughout the feature by Guy Michelmore. Uplifting, stirring and mystical, a series of cues that always manage to enhance the visuals.

One of the best animated films I’ve seen in recent years, and highly recommended!

WITCHBLADE: TAKERU manga

Witchblade Takeru Manga tpb collects the 12 volume manga series, as published by Top Cow.

Re-formatted left-to-right (with permission and co-operation of the original Japanese artists) and re-colored for this English language version, this collection is an awesome experience of vivid action and ultra sexiness within comics!

Young high school student Takeru discovers she is the bearer of the ancient Witchblade weapon, as a group of demons from the forest begin slaughtering villagers, and how is the US Government involved?

Takeru’s life becomes complicated when her lifelong best friend Kou battles with his realization of being from a bloodline of demon slayers, as he might need to destroy the Witchblade, and the love of his life!

This is a fantastic reading experience, very exciting, though extremely blood-thirsty, too. There is enough up-skirt panels to satisfy most manga fanboys, also!

Over 400 full color pages for US$20, this is one of the best comic book purchases of the year!

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN – 2007 animated movie

This afternoon I watched Marvel Animation’s 2007 INVINCIBLE IRON MAN film on DVD.

Presenting yet another “origin” for Tony Stark and his man-made suit of armor, this story delves into the resurrection of the Mandarin, via his 5 golden rings!

This was a good film, though had a slow start, but soon got into gear once the basics of the “origin” was dealt with. Due to the Mandarin focus, the cartoon had an unexpected mystical edge to it, and certainly not the normal superhero action film one might expect.

Definitely not for young children, there is several over-the-top violent scenes and scary imagery.

Overall, it was entertaining, without being outstanding, though the finale was exciting.
